There are two different Turnitin integrations in Canvas: Canvas Plagiarism Framework, which integrates directly with Canvas online assignments, and Turnitin Feedback Studio (LTI 1.3), which provides access to the full suite of Turnitin features. (Please note that this video was created before the LTI 1.3 SpeedGrader grading option was available; the video will be updated as soon as possible.)
Canvas Plagiarism Framework
Use the Canvas Plagiarism Framework feature in Canvas Assignments if you need to do any of the following:
- Grade papers through SpeedGrader.
- Use Turnitin with Canvas groups.
- Use Turnitin with Canvas Peer Review features.
- Use Turnitin with Canvas Rubrics.
- Allow multiple files to be submitted to Turnitin as part of one assignment.
- Try out the assignment from Student View with the Test Student.
Turnitin Feedback Studio (LTI 1.3)
Set up your assignment with Turnitin Feedback Studio (LTI 1.3) through the Assignments modal (three-dot) menu option in Canvas. There are two options for grading LTI 1.3 assignments. It is strongly discouraged to use any combination of these two grading options; rather, one option should be chosen and used for all grading of a specific assignment. It is recommended that you read Grading Turnitin assignments in Canvas in full before setting up an assignment that uses the SpeedGrader option below.
Grading with SpeedGrader
- Only available for New Standard Assignments, not Classic Assignments.
- Use Canvas rubrics instead of Turnitin rubrics.
- Use SpeedGrader to submit audio/video feedback comments.
- Instructors cannot submit papers for a student to Turnitin.
Grading with Turnitin LTI 1.3
- Use PeerMark features instead of Canvas Peer Review features (for Classic assignments only, not New Standard Assignments).
- Use Turnitin rubrics instead of Canvas rubrics.
- Use Turnitin to submit audio/video feedback comments.
- Submit papers for a student to Turnitin.
Features common to both grading methods
- Use QuickMark features for standardizing grading and comments.
- Create Templates (for assignments that require students to fill in forms). Easily pull assignments from different classes.
- Students can submit only one file to Turnitin.
