Understanding how Zoom recordings store in Panopto

Body

Zoom offers two recording options: local recording and cloud recording. When recording to the cloud, the video, audio, and chat are saved to Zoom Cloud; since UM System Zoom is integrated with Panopto, if a user has a Panopto account, the recordings are automatically uploaded to Panopto for storage and deleted from Zoom immediately upon processing.

Confirm matching Zoom and Canvas email addresses

To send your Zoom recordings automatically to Panopto, your Zoom, Canvas, and Panopto email addresses should match. This automated process will not work if the email addresses are different. Follow the steps in this article to verify that they are the same or to update them.

Locate Zoom cloud recordings in your Panopto account (default location)

Zoom cloud recordings from meetings will be imported into your Meeting Recordings folder in Panopto (See Fig. 4).

In instances where the Zoom meeting was created in Canvas and Panopto has been enabled in the course, the cloud recordings will be imported into the course folder in Panopto, which is also available through Canvas (See Fig. 5 and 6).

Change or add a default location for Zoom cloud recordings in Panopto

You may also select an alternative folder in Panopto for Zoom cloud recordings to upload; this can be used if Canvas course Zoom recordings are not uploading properly to the Panopto course folder.
