Critical Staffing and Extra Shift Plan Changes Effective July 5, 2026

Purpose:

This article provides guidance for the Critical Staffing Plan and Extra Shift Plan changes effective July 5, 2026. These changes include a 25% reduction to the premium amounts for All-Hours-Worked Critical Staffing Plans and Extra Shift Plans.  The 25% reduction applies to the premium amount only. It does not reduce an employee’s base hourly rate.

What is changing on July 5, 2026?

Effective July 5, 2026, the premium amounts for applicable All-Hours-Worked Critical Staffing Plans and Extra Shift Plans will be reduced by 25%.

The updated plan documents should be used for any applicable shifts or hours worked on or after July 5, 2026.

UKG pay codes:

Because UKG pay codes vary by plan and premium amount, users should refer to the applicable plan document for the correct Regular and Overtime pay codes.  For hours or shifts worked on or after July 5, 2026, use the updated plan documents.


Important:

Always verify that the employee, title, department, and shift meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the applicable plan document before applying a UKG pay code.


Additional Changes:

  • Union titles were removed from the posted Critical Staffing Plan documents effective July 5, 2026. For impacted current employees, the prior premium value is being permanently added to base wages in PeopleSoft.  This approach is specific to these Union titles and reflects decisions made during wage openers with the Union in fall 2025.   • Extra Shift Plans are scheduled to deactivate on September 6, 2026. For additional details, please refer to the related knowledge article HERE.
  • The rates for the All-Hours-Worked Critical Staffing Plans are scheduled for a further reduction on January 3, 2027. For additional details, please refer to the related knowledge article HERE.
