How do I install Rtools without administrative privileges in Windows?

 

Answer

Note:  Once you have acquired the distribution installation file by following the IT Compliance Guidelines, follow the below steps.

1.   Begin the install process of installing without administrative privileges.

a. Launch the Rtools install .exe file. 

b. The first window will ask you for a location to install.

c. Record the path shown to be used in Step 2 b.

Example: rtools45

d. Select the Browse button.

Select Destination Location window displayed.

 

2. Choose folder to install Rtools.

a. Select your Users folder. 

Example: C:\Users\trumant\

b. Enter the folder name you recorded in Step 1 c for the listed path.

Example: C:\Users\trumant\rtools45

3. Verify rtools folder location.

a. Selected rtools folder should be under "C:\Users\<username>\", the same as Step 2 b.

Example: C:\User\trumant\rtools45

b. Select Next.

4. Ensure additional tasks are checked (a), then select Next (b).

5. Ready to Install window displayed, select Install.
