Canvas offers two ways for users to identify and fix accessibility issues within course content: using the accessibility checker within the Rich Content Editor (RCE) and through the Canvas Accessibility report.
⚠️Note: The Canvas accessibility tools should be used in conjunction with Ally. The Canvas Accessibility Checker will help instructors identify and remediate Canvas native content, such as Pages, Assignments, Quizzes, and Discussions. Ally provides a more comprehensive, course‑wide view by providing overviews of both Canvas content and uploaded files such as PDFs, Word documents, and PowerPoint presentations.
Using the Accessibility Checker in the Rich Content Editor
The Rich Content Editor includes an accessibility tool that detects common accessibility errors within the editor. When an issue is detected in the RCE, the Accessibility Checker displays an icon showing the number of issues; to view them, select the icon. Additional information is available in the article, Creating accessible content using the Canvas Rich Content Editor.
Using the Canvas course Accessibility checker report
The Canvas Accessibility Report seen in Figure 1 provides instructors with an overview of common accessibility issues for Canvas-specific course content. It identifies problem areas, provides explanations, and offers guidance for improving accessibility. Additional information about using the Accessibility checker in Canvas can be found in the article, How do I use the Accessibility Checker in Canvas?
