Canvas Discussions - New checkpoints for multiple due dates

Update as of April 14, 2025 -

We are still waiting for some issues to be resolved with this feature before enabling it in Canvas. There is still no ETA and we thank you for your patience.

Updated February 27, 2025 -

The Discussions Checkpoint functionality was disabled on January 21 because the discussion-specific SpeedGrader display was also being enforced on non-checkpoint Discussions. Instructure intends to release this feature option again in March. Once it is available we will be conducting internal testing to ensure there are no additional issues, similar to what occurred in the last release. Once we have confirmed the functionality works as intended it will be released into our Canvas environment. There is currently no ETA for enabling the Checkpoint function.

Starting January 21st, the Discussion Checkpoints feature will allow instructors to set multiple due dates, or checkpoints, for graded discussions to accommodate different stages of the discussion process, such as the initial post and follow-up replies. The Grading Canvas Discussions article details how to turn on and use checkpoints.
