MERIT FAQs 

  1. Why is an employee who transferred to me not on my list of employees to score for MERIT in the HR Hub? 

    1. Depending on the date of transfer, the employee may not show. EPAFs processed on or after 8/31/2026 will not reflect changes. They will remain on their previous leader’s list for MERIT review.  

    2. Employees hired after 8/31/26 will also not show on the list of eligible employees as they do not meet the eligibility criteria.  

  2. An employee who recently transferred to another department is still showing on my list. Do I have to score them? 

    1. MERIT is based on the past year’s performance. You are responsible for scoring the employee based on their performance while under your supervision.  

  3. When should I push my employees up to be scored by my leader? 

    1. If you are going on leave, extended PTO or transfer during the MERIT review period and will not be able to score your reports to, use the push employees up feature. If you will not be able to complete this function due to MERIT not being open yet please submit a ticket via AskHR.  

    2. Senior leadership in departments may choose to score and allocate MERIT by having all employees pushed up to the senior leader. Please refer to your senior leader for further guidance.  

  4. What if I will be on a leave of absence or extended PTO during the MERIT review period?  

    1. If you will not be able to complete your MERIT review due to being out of the office, you should use the push up feature to ensure your senior leadership can complete the scoring on your behalf. Remember, if you fail to complete the scoring portion, you will forfeit your team’s MERIT allocation.

  5. Why can’t I see the dollar amounts like I have historically? 

    1. To ensure scoring reflects the employee’s performance, the dollar amounts associated will only become available for leaders to see after it has been approved by the MERIT committee.  

  6. I scored my team and hit submit, but then my senior leader informed me that all of my staff need to be pushed up to them to score instead. How do I do this when the button is greyed out? 

    1. You will need to request an unlock. AskHR Once the unlock has been permitted, you will be able to push the team to your leader. All the scores you have entered will remain for the leader to see. Senior leaders will receive a notification when this complete. 

  7. An employee is showing on my list, but I am not their leader. How do I correct this? 

    1. If you are not their leader, please submit an AskHR request. Please clarify if you were their previous leader and who their leader should be if known. d who their leader should be if known.  

    2. Note that if the employee recently transferred out of your department, you are still responsible for scoring the employee based on their performance while under your supervision. 

  8. An employee on my list who is no longer with MU Health Care. Do I need to score them? 

    1. If the employee is no longer with MU Health Care, then mark them as “No-doesn’t receive award”. There is no need to score them.  

    2. Note that if the employee recently transferred out of your department but still works at MU Health Care, you are still responsible for scoring the employee based on their performance while under your supervision. 

  9. I need to modify scoring that I already submitted. How can I make these changes? 

    1. Before the due date, you may make updates by selecting the “Preview” button again. You will be prompted to review the allocation. Once you have selected “Continue” then the “Submit MERIT” button will be available again.  

  10. If I am not going to award an employee MERIT, do I have to score them? 

    1. No. The default setting in the HR Hub is set to “No-No Award” for all employees. It is up to the leader to determine who should be awarded.  

    2. If you choose to score all employees but determine later that you only want to award a select few MERIT instead of all those scored, then you may go back to the employee's scorecard and mark “No-No Award”. There is an option to select why you marked them as No, but it is not required.  

  11. After I have scored my team for MERIT, can I begin having conversations with them to let them know I have awarded them? 

    1. All leader conversations with staff should take place after January 11th. Employees must remain eligible for MERIT between the time of leader submission to January 11th. Senior leaders will be notified if any of their team members who were previously listed as receiving MERIT have been changed to disqualified during this time frame. 

  12. What should I do if an employee is questioning MERIT? (Amount, who is awarded, etc.) 

    1. Leaders should listen actively, acknowledge the employee’s feelings, discuss the evaluation process, outline opportunities for improvement, encourage ongoing communication, and reaffirm your support. It is recommended leaders document the discussion for reference.  

    2. It is recommended for leaders to have an unbiased, standard approach for how MERIT is awarded to their team. This will help in answering employee questions and guide the conversation for how they may be eligible for MERIT in the future. 

  13. What do I do if MERIT is not showing in the HR Hub for me? 

    1. First make sure that you are not trying to access MERIT in the HR Hub prior to September 1st. MERIT will not be available for access until after this date.  

    2. If it is after September 1st and you are a leader with reports to, then you can submit a permissions request in AskHR. You can also access the AskHR submission form by clicking on “Report Issues” in the HR Hub.
