Question

How do I reset my password off campus without being locked out of my computer?

 

Answer

When changing your password your computer needs to be connected to the campus network or it wont sync with your new password. To Connect to the University Network when off campus you need to turn on your VPN.

 

1. Turn on VPN

How to connect to VPN with a Mac

1. From Finder, open Applications / Cisco / Cisco Secure Client.

2. In the Ready to connect field, type vpn.missouri.edu.

3. Click the Connect button.

4. In the Group field, choose:
- For Students, choose **Generic.
- For Faculty/Staff, choose *Employee.

5. Enter your university email address in the Microsoft window that appears.
NOTE: This must be the full email. (i.e. username@umsystem.edu)

6. In the Password field type your password.

7. Click the sign in button.

8. Approve your sign in via your preferred method (text message, authenticator app, etc.)
If you have chosen to receive a text you will enter the code sent to you then click verify to submit.
**Note: if you would like to use a different method than the one automatically chosen click the link “Sign in another way” to choose a secondary method of verification

9. Once connected, the AnyConnect client is minimized to the Dock

How to connect to VPN using Windows

1. Open Cisco Secure Client from the Start menu.

2. In the form field, type or select vpn1.missouri.edu.

3. Click the Connect button.

4. In the Group drop-down menu, choose:
-For Students, choose **Generic
-For Faculty/Staff, choose *Employee

5. Enter your university email address in the Microsoft window that appears.

6. In the Password field type your password.

7. Click the sign in button.

9. You are now connected to university VPN.

2. Reset your Password

1. Go to passwordreset.microsoftonline.com

2. Enter your email address, e.g., username@umsystem.edu.

3. Complete the Puzzle/CAPTCHA  (the characters are not case sensitive).

4. Verify your Identity with your Phone number or Authenticator

If you already reset your password without turning on the VPN 

1. Log in with your old Password.

2. If you are able to get in, then turn on the VPN and your computer should sync the new password.

3. If you are not able to get in, please contact the Help Desk (Information Below) for next steps.
