Overview
This article shows the steps for installing and connecting to the VPN. If you’ve already installed AnyConnect, skip to the second procedure.
NOTE: Most university resources do not require VPN for access. For example: Email, PeopleSoft, Zoom, Canvas, etc.

Procedure 1: Installation
The AnyConnect program for Windows can be downloaded from the VPN service website.
NOTE 1: The built-in VPN connection of Windows (via Network Settings) will not work to connect to Cisco AnyConnect.
NOTE 2: Users on a University-issued computer can download Cisco AnyConnect / Cisco Secure Client via Software Center.
1. Visit https://anyconnect.missouri.edu. For GROUP choose **Generic.
2. Enter your university login credentials.
3. Click the Login button. The Microsoft Sign in page appears.
4. Enter your University email login address (username@umsystem.edu)
5. Enter your password.
6. Complete the multi-factor authentication (text code, Authenticator app request/code, or passkey)
7. Click the blue “Download for Windows” button to begin downloading the installer
8. Open the Downloads folder in Windows File Explorer.
9. Right-click the downloaded file (similar to anyconnect-win-4.9.04043-core-vpn-webdeploy-k9.exe) and choose Run as Administrator.
10. Click Next.
11. Click I accept the terms in the License Agreement.
12. Click Next.
13. Click Install.
14. If prompted to allow changes to the computer, click Yes.
15. Click Finish.
Step 2: Connect to VPN
1. Open Cisco Secure Client from the Start menu.
2. In the form field, type or select vpn1.missouri.edu.
3. Click the Connect button.
4. In the Group drop-down menu, choose:
Students: **Generic
Faculty/Staff: *Employee
5. You will be redirected to the Microsoft Sign in page.
6. Enter your University email login address (username@umsystem.edu)
7. Enter your password
8. Complete the multi-factor authentication (text code, Authenticator app request/code, or passkey)
9. You are now connected to university VPN. You should see a green check-mark, and the button should now say 'Disconnect'.
