How do I set up Facial Recognition for Windows Hello for Business (WHFB)? (University Owned)
Preface
Before you begin, ensure the following:
- You are signed in with a Microsoft account or work/school account.
- A Windows Hello-compatible camera is installed (IR camera required).
- A Windows Hello PIN is already set up. Click HERE to view the Set Up Windows Hello PIN article.
- Your device has Windows 10 or Windows 11
Organizational polices (for work devices) allow Windows Hello.

Setting Up Facial Recognition
Click HERE for a video representation of the procedure.
- On your Windows task bar Search field, enter Sign-in Options.

- Select the drop-down for Facial recognition (Windows Hello) and select Set up.

- The Welcome to Windows Hello window will display. Select Get Started.

- Enter your PIN and select OK.
NOTE: If you have not yet set up your Windows Hello for Business PIN, it will prompt you to do so here.
- Follow the prompts on the window for the biometric scan of your face.

- The All Set! window will display when you have finished.

Optional: Improve Recognition Accuracy
If recognition is slow or inconsistent:
- On your Windows task bar Search field, enter Sign-in Options.

- Under Facial recognition (Windows Hello), select Improve recognition.

- The Welcome to Windows Hello window will display. Select Get Started.

- Enter your PIN and select OK.

- Follow the prompts on the window for the biometric scan of your face.

- The All Set! window will display when you have finished.
