Troubleshooting issues with VoiceThread

If you are having trouble with VoiceThread, try each of the solutions below.

PC

• Ensure you are using Chrome or Firefox. Safari and Edge are fully supported but occasionally have issues. Learn more about supported browsers.
• Learn how to clear out your browser cache.
• Learn how to clear out your cookies.
• Restart your computer. A previously used program may be using your microphone if you are having trouble recording audio. If all else fails, you can record your audio comment with another program on your computer or phone and upload it. Learn how to comment on a VoiceThread.

Phone and app

• If you are using the VoiceThread app on an iPhone and your sound is not working, please make sure the phone is not on silent/vibrate. Learn how to ensure your iPad is not on silent.
• If VoiceThread is not allowing you to log in when using an iPhone or iPad in your web browser, i.e., Safari, or while using the Canvas Student app, check that "Prevent cross-site tracking" is OFF:
  • Open Settings on your iPhone.
  • Select Apps.
  • Select Safari.
  • Under Privacy and Security, ensure Prevent Cross-Site Tracking is turned off.

Canvas Assignment

• If the VoiceThread shows an error indicating it is being edited, the instructor must go in and republish the assignment.
• If the assignment submission button is not highlighted for a student, they need to check that they have met the minimum requirements, such as the number of comments and slides.
