The Bookshelf app provides a great deal of reading and study functionality on most phones and tablets. Missouri S&T uses a different application (from Fall Semester 2025) based on Bookshelf called Yuzu eReader.
Setting up VitalSource App
- Download the VitalSource Bookshelf app from the iOS App Store or the Google Play Store on your device.
- Missouri S&T users should download the Yuzu eReader iOS App or the Android App.
Syncing the app with your university account
- Go to a course in Canvas using VitalSource (Barnes & Noble College’s Course Materials for Missouri S&T).
- Select a VS Materials or Course Materials link to open the VS Dashboard.
- Select a Read Now link for a book.
- The book will open in a Bookshelf window in the browser or Canvas Student app. Select the Open App button towards the upper right of the screen. (See Fig. 1).

- In the subsequent dialog, Open in Bookshelf or Open in Yuzu as appropriate. You will be asked to confirm that you want to open the Bookshelf/Yuzu app. Select Open. (If you did not previously download the app, you will have the opportunity to do so at this time.)
- Once signed into the app the first time, we recommend clicking the menu icon at the upper left and then on My Account to ensure you have entered all of the information VitalSource needs.
