Creating Zoom group presentations for students

Zoom facilitates group presentations by allowing multiple users to join a meeting, share their screens (including PowerPoint presentations), and record the session so it can be uploaded to the Canvas assignment.

Creating a group presentation recording

Use Zoom to record the group presentation to the cloud, or your local computer. Then upload the recording to Panopto so it can be embedded in the Canvas course assignment.

Zoom recording

  1. Log in to UM System Zoom using your SSO. Additional information about Zoom is available in the Getting Started: Zoom quick start guide.
  2. One group member will begin a meeting using Zoom, and invite others in the group. The host, or a Zoom participant, with permission, will share their screen to show the presentation, and then start recording the meeting.
  3. Once done with the presentation, stop recording.

Panopto recording

  1. The Zoom recording will be uploaded to the cloud, Zoom or Panopto, or your local device, depending on what you selected.
    • If you have a Panopto account, your cloud recording may automatically be uploaded to Panopto and removed from Zoom. The default location in Panopto, for the recording to be uploaded to is the Meeting Recordings folder under My Folder.
    • If you do not have a Panopto account, locate the recording in the Zoom Cloud Recordings folder and download the video to your local device. Once downloaded, open Panopto and upload the video file from your computer to Panopto.
    • If you selected to record to your local device, locate the recording and upload the video file from your computer to Panopto.

Panopto assignment

Once the recording has been uploaded to Panopto, you can embed the recording into the assignment in Canvas. The article, How to submit a Panopto video assignment in Canvas for Students will walk you through the steps.
