Creating accessible videos

Video accessibility ensures that video content is usable and comprehensible for everyone, including people with disabilities, by incorporating features like captions, audio descriptions, and transcripts.

Panopto accessibility

To make a Panopto recording accessible, ensure the recordings have captions or transcripts, use industry-standard accessibility features (screen reader support, keyboard navigation), and offer variable playback speeds. Also, ensure easy navigation within the platform and consider adding audio descriptions where appropriate. More instruction about Panopto accessibility is available through Panopto Support, or in the Missouri Online Knowledge Base article, Panopto closed captioning

Zoom accessibility

Zoom enhances accessibility through features like closed captioning/live transcripts, keyboard shortcuts, screen reader support, and the ability to adjust font sizes/colors, making virtual meetings more inclusive for users with diverse needs. Additional guidance about Zoom accessibility is available through Zoom Support, or in the Missouri Knowledge Base article, Zoom accessibility

VoiceThread accessibility

To make a VoiceThread accessible, incorporate Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, ensuring all content is accessible to all, by including features like closed captions, alternative text for images, audio descriptions for slides, and a simplified, screen reader-friendly interface, along with allowing text-based commenting. More details about VoiceThread accessibility is available in the Missouri Knowledge Base article, Closed Captioning VoiceThread

YouTube accessibility

To make a YouTube video accessible, include features like transcripts or closed captions, ensure clear visual content with good color contrast, and offer screen reader compatibility for visually impaired users.  If you provide YouTube content from third parties, ensure students know how to manage accessibility settings. Additional guidance on adding closed captions to your own videos or editing captions for accuracy are available on YouTube Help.
