Civics and Math Placement exams for Students

Students who are required to take a Math Placement Exam and/or Civics Exam will do so from their Canvas account. Tests are accessed through a dedicated course that will appear on the Canvas Dashboard.

⚠️Note: For newly enrolled or newly transferred students, access is not instantaneous; it may take several days for the exams to appear in Canvas due to the time needed to add student information to the required systems. If you have questions on eligibility for and/or access to any of the following tests, please reach out to your campus Registrar and/or your academic advisor.

Civics Exam

Missouri state law requires that all first-time college students enrolling in a full-time, two- or four-year program after July 2019 pass the Missouri Higher Education Civics Achievement Examination (MHECAE) before graduating.

Math Placement

Mizzou Math Placement Exam

A math course is part of Mizzou’s general education requirements. The placement test helps your academic advisor make sure you’re registered for a math class that meets your needs. All incoming freshmen should take the math placement assessment (even students with AP credit or dual credit). Mizzou Math placement exams are administered through Pearson.

UMSL Math Placement Exam
To enroll in entry-level college Mathematics courses, a student must demonstrate appropriate background mathematical knowledge and skills. UMSL accepts multiple ways of demonstrating this knowledge, including ACT math subscores for new first-year students and online math placement test scores for all students. To view the Mathematics Course Pre-requisite Information and to access the online math placement test, please visit the Campus Testing Center. UMSL math placement exams are administered through Pearson.

Missouri S&T Math Placement Exam

The ALEKS Math Placement Exam is a valuable tool that provides students with a clear understanding of their strengths in relation to core math objectives. By guiding students to the most appropriate math course, we ensure a strong foundation for success in their first semester and beyond. Missouri S&T math placement exams are administered through ALEKS.

UMKC Math Placement Exam

Math Placement determines your level of preparation for college-level mathematics and statistics courses offered at UMKC. You may register for certain math and stat courses only by having credit from a prerequisite course or a placement score on the ACT or math placement test. Math placement tests are administered through Pearson. The Math 110 Intermediate Algebra exam and the Orientation for that exam will require Honorlock.
