How to do I set up fingerprint recognition for Windows Hello for Business on my university owned device?
Preface
Windows Hello is a secure sign-in method built into Windows that lets you access your device using a PIN, fingerprint, or facial recognition. A PIN is the most common option and is required before you can enable biometrics. You can find the article HERE for setting up a Windows PIN.
What you need before you start:
- University owned, domain-joined device.
- You are signed in with a Microsoft account or work/school account.
- Your device is running Windows 10 or Windows 11.
Answer
Setting Up Fingerprint Recognition
- On your Windows task bar Search field, enter Sign-in Options.

- Select the drop-down for Fingerprint recognition (Windows Hello) and select Set Up.

- The Windows Hello Setup window will display. Select Get Started.

- Enter your PIN and select OK.

- Follow the prompts on the window and touch the fingerprint sensor until it has fully scanned your fingerprint.


- When finished, you can choose to Add another finger or Close the window.
