Note: Changes to Cengage for Missouri S&T Instructors
Starting FS2025, The S&T Bookstore is contracted with Barnes & Noble College (BNC). BNC does not use Cengage Unlimited. This will result in some changes for S&T users.
- Cengage eBooks are no longer deployed and accessed through the Cengage LTIA Advantage.
- All other Cengage products are still deployed and accessed with Cengage LTIA Advantage.
- Students will initially sign into MindTap and other Cengage courseware differently. BNC has a page of student FAQs for Cengage.
Examples
Copying or adding a new Cengage eBook or chapters to a Canvas course (but no other Cengage content, such as MindTap)
- Replace the existing or add new Cengage eBook links with Deploying a Cengage eBook, below.
Copying or adding new MindTap, WebAssign, CNOW, or OWL content to a Canvas course
- Add materials with Pairing an existing Canvas course with Cengage courseware or Pairing a new Canvas course with Cengage courseware, below.
Copying or adding both kinds of content to a Canvas course
- Use Deploying a Cengage eBook for the eBooks and Pairing an existing Canvas course with Cengage courseware or Pairing a new Canvas course with Cengage courseware, for the other content, below.
Deploying a Cengage eBook
- Deploy Cengage eBooks (without MindTap, WebAssign, OWL, etc.) in Course Materials, not through Cengage.
- Course Materials can be added to Course Navigation from the Navigation tab under Settings.
- Link ebooks or deeplink chapters with the BNED Deep Linking Tool, not with the Cengage LTI.
- Access this by creating a module item and selecting External Tool
- There is no eBook option in the content selector in the Cengage LTIA Advantage.
- If a copied course contains Cengage eBook links, they must be replaced.
- For mobile access, students may use the Yuzu eReader on phones and tablets in place of the Cengage Read app.
Pairing an existing Canvas course with Cengage courseware
View instructional videos to pair your Canvas course with Cengage MindTap or Cengage WebAssign.
- Copy a Canvas course with existing Cengage links.
- Go to Modules or Assignments in the Canvas course.
- Select any Cengage Assignment or Reading.
- After loading it in a new window, you will be prompted to create a new course or copy an existing one, just as you would have if you had gone through the old Cengage tool. From this point on, the process is the same as in the past.
- Locate your previous Cengage course in the menu and select it.
- Fill in the information (course name, dates, and time zone) requested by Cengage.
- Select Continue.
- Choose the score type.
Add Activity Score shows individual Cengage assignments in the Gradebook.
Add Overall Score shows a single, comprehensive score for all Cengage assignments.
- Select Continue and wait for it to finish processing (about a minute).
If the copied course contains both courseware and eBook links, the existing eBook links will need to be replaced by Course Materials links (see above).

Module Settings Menu
Recommended (See Fig. 1)
- This placement is ideal for the initial course setup to add a lot of content all at once. It adds items to the modules page and graded assignments to both the modules and assignments.
- All items and assignments are added to a generic module and a generic assignment group. They must be moved by hand to the correct modules or assignment groups.

Course Assignments Menu
Recommended (See Fig. 2).
- This functions almost identically to the Module Index Menu.
- All items and assignments are added to a generic module and a generic assignment group. They must be moved by hand to the correct modules or assignment groups.
Figure 2: Course Assignments Menu
When creating or editing an External Tool Module Item
Recommended for deploying new assignments to courses already set up or if for deep links to sections in the textbook (See Fig. 3).
- This placement allows you to add as many items or assignments as you wish at once time. It adds them to the current module.
- Uses: This is excellent for setting up a course or a module, as the items do not have to be added to the module or dragged from a generic module into place.
Figure 3: External Tool Module Item Menu
When creating an External Tool Assignment
This allows linking of only single assignments (See Fig. 4).
- This placement is the most limited. It only allows you to link one assignment at a time and only places it in the assignment group you select when creating the assignment.
- Uses: It is ideal for adding an assignment later in the semester that you do not want to appear in a module.
Figure 4: External Tool Assignment tab options
Once you click on any of these, you will be in the familiar Cengage interface previously used to select course content.
