Updating departmental File Share mappings or Shortcuts.

Overview

Updating departmental File Share mappings or Shortcuts.

Detailed Information

The multi-year efforts to consolidate all active directory domains across the system is underway. The impact for most users so far was scheduling account or computer moves with IT Pros.

In addition, users need to update departmental file share mappings or shortcuts, if the path starts with \\col.missouri.edu\files\% or \\eas-source.col.missouri.edu\% to \\umad.umsystem.edu\files\% , in order to continue to access file shares. “%” is a generic placeholder for any subdirectories used by different areas. The old reference will remain for a few more weeks (this article was written 5/3/23), but this update should be done as soon as possible to avoid interruption later.

It is likely these drives are currently mapped to a letter drive on your machine. It is strongly recommended that users use network shortcuts instead of mapped drives, as the shortcuts are more secure. See the article about Creating a Network Location Shortcut for instructions and PS-specific walk through of creating network location shortcuts, as well as an example of identifying the full path of a mapped drive.

Below are some common file shares used by Peoplesoft, that might need to be updated. Note that all departmental shares referencing COL will need to be replaced with UMAD references. Separate communications may be sent regarding file shares used by other applications or departments.

  • \\col.missouri.edu\files\psommon\% Will need to be replaced with \\umad.umsystem.edu\files\pscommon\%
  • \\col.missouri.edu\files\pssecure\% will need to be replaced with \\umad.umsystem.edu\files\pssecure\%
  • \\eas-source.col.missouri.edu\% will need to be replaced with \\umad.umsystem.edu\files\%

Note: Your data is not moving and there is no risk of losing anything. Not using the correct file path will just result in an error that either the user does not have access, or the path cannot be found. Once the correct file path is used, users should be able to access everything the same as before.
