How do I request a new listserv/email discussion list?

NOTE: The primary list owner may only be faculty or staff of the University of Missouri. Students are welcome to be a co-owner, but only faculty and staff may be the primary list owner.

  1. Log in to the DoIT Service Portal.
  2. Click the Services menu item.
  3. Click Email & Collaboration on the Request Services page.
  4. On the Email & Collaboration page, click Listserv.
  5. On the Listserv page, click the Request button.
     

MU Discussion List Request Form Conditions

Upon creation of the list, both the requester and the list owner agree to and assume the following conditions and responsibilities:

  • Any list without a primary list owner will be subject to deletion. If the primary list owner chooses to disassociate from the list, a replacement must be submitted to the UM - IT Email Server Team.
  • The list owner is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the list and for setting and maintaining the tone and topics for the list. It is the list owner's responsibility to keep abusive topics off of the list.
  • The list owner is ultimately responsible for the addition and deletion of users on the list. This includes removing invalid user addresses and user addresses which cause bounced mail.
  • Any list that is generating bounced mail that negatively impacts the list distribution system or associated electronic mail systems may be shut down or deleted to prevent further problems.
  • Any list that is generating large amounts of traffic over topics which are not related to the list's scope or that are not in the interests of the University of Missouri may be shut down or deleted.
  • The Division of IT cannot guarantee that potential subscribers to the list with nonstandard mailing address can be accommodated and may not be allowed as subscribers to the list.
  • In accordance with records retention policy GEN-001-02, archives and/or digests created for LISTSERV lists will be retained for the two most recent years.  Note that this policy is subject to change based on the amount of available disk space for storing archives and digests. Any backups of these files will be the ultimate responsibility of the list owner.
