How do I use a University Single Line Phone?

Answer

Call Forward
This feature allows you to forward your calls to another phone number or voice mail.

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial 72.
  4. Listen for new dial tone.
  5. Dial the number you wish to forward your calls to or dial 66 to forward to voice mail.
  6. Listen for ringing.
  7. Wait for an answer.
  8. Hang up. The phone is now forwarded to that number. A short ring will be heard every time a call comes in as a reminder that the phone is forwarded.
  9. If there is no answer, repeat the procedure above and listen for a confirmation tone as soon as the number has been dialed.

Cancel Call Forward

  1. Lift the handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial 73.
  4. Listen for confirmation tone.
  5. Hang up.

Call Park
This is used when you want to put a caller on hold and retrieve the call at another University line. You must retrieve a caller within 90 seconds or the call will ring back to the original number.

  1. Ask the caller to hold the line.
  2. Press the Tap button.
  3. Listen for dial tone.
  4. Dial 32.
  5. Listen for confirmation tone.
  6. Hang up.

To Retrieve Your Parked Call

  1. Lift the handset on any University phone.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial 62.
  4. Listen for dial tone.
  5. Dial the last five digits of the telephone number where the call was parked.

Call Pickup
Use this feature to answer another ringing telephone located within your predesignated call pickup group.

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial 82.
  4. Incoming call will be connected to your telephone line.

Directed Call Pickup
Use this feature whenever you wish to answer a specific ringing telephone, even if it was not the first phone to ring.

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial 83.
  4. Listen for new dial tone.
  5. Dial the last five digits of the ringing telephone number you wish to answer.
  6. The incoming call is now connected to the phone.

Call Transfer
Use this advanced feature whenever you wish to transfer a call to someone else or speak to more than one person at a time.

  1. Ask the caller to hold the line.
  2. Press the Tap button.
  3. Listen for new dial tone.
  4. Dial the number which the call is being transferred to.
  5. When the third party answers, you may conduct a private conversation. When the third party agrees to receive the call:
  6. Press the Tap button, then hang up.
  7. If there is no answer, press the Tap button twice slowly to retrieve the caller.

Call Waiting
Call waiting allows you to answer another incoming call while you are talking to someone else.

  1. When you hear the call waiting tone, ask the first caller to hold the line.
  2. Press the Tap button.
  3. Listen for dial tone.
  4. Dial 80.
  5. Press the Tap button and dial 80 to alternate between the two callers.

To Disconnect From the First Caller to Take the Incoming Call

  1. Hang up with the first caller.
  2. Wait for the phone to ring.
  3. Lift the handset.

Group Intercoms

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Press the # key followed by the one or two-digit intercom number. (Press the # key again if the intercom number is only one digit.)

Placing a Call on Hold

  1. Ask the caller to hold the line.
  2. Press the Tap button.
  3. Listen for dial tone.
  4. Dial 85.
  5. Listen for confirmation tone.
  6. Hang up.
  7. To reconnect caller, simply lift the handset.

Placing a Call While Having Another Caller on Hold
Use this feature when needing to put the first caller on hold and place another call when the intention is not to transfer the holding caller to the third party.

  1. Ask the caller to hold the line.
  2. Press the Tap button.
  3. Listen for dial tone.
  4. Dial 80.
  5. Listen for confirmation tone.
  6. Place the call to the third party.
  7. To reconnect to the first caller on hold, press down on the switchhook and release.

Last Number Redial
Only available for campus, local, and toll-free calls.

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial 36.
  4. The last number you dialed from your telephone will be redialed.

Ring Again
Only available for campus calls.

  1. When encountering a busy signal, press the Tap button.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial 37.
  4. Listen for confirmation tone.
  5. Hang up.
  6. When the busy party hangs up, the phone will produce a long ring and two short rings.
  7. Lift handset.
  8. The previously busy number is automatically dialed.

To Cancel Ring Again

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial 37.
  4. Listen for confirmation tone.
  5. Hang up. Feature is cancelled.

Six-Way Conference Calls
Six-way conference is an advanced phone feature that is available to all faculty and staff, allowing you to conduct a conference call with up to six conferees. If you need to place a conference call with more than six conferees, please contact the Division of Information Technology (DoIT) at (573) 882-2000 for assistance.

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial the number of the first conferee to be added to the conference call.
  4. When you reach your desired party, press the Tap button.
  5. Dial 33.
  6. To add another conferee, press the Tap button. Wait for a dial tone.
  7. Dial the number of the next conferee to be added.
  8. When you reach your desired party, press the Tap button.
  9. Dial 33.
  10. Repeat the last four steps to add additional conferees, up to six conferees in total.
  11. When all desired parties are connected, press the Tap button.
  12. Dial 33. All callers may now conduct a conference.

Programming a Telephone Number into Speed Call

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial 35 for short list, or 65 for long list.
  4. Listen for new dial tone.
  5. Choose and dial the one or two-digit code for where you want to store the programmed telephone number. (Note: 60 and 67 are invalid Speed Call codes that are set aside as access codes for other telephone features.)
  6. Dial the phone number you wish to have programmed followed by the # key.
  7. Listen for confirmation tone.
  8. Hang up. Number is now in memory.

Placing a Call Using Speed Call

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Press the * key.
  4. Dial the one or two-digit code for the number desired.
  5. The number is dialed automatically.

To Delete a Speed Call Number

  1. Lift handset.
  2. Listen for dial tone.
  3. Dial 35 for the short list or 65 for the long list.
  4. Listen for a new dial tone.
  5. Dial the one or two-digit code for the programmed telephone number.
  6. Press the # key.
  7. Listen for confirmation tone.
  8. Hang up.
