How do I configure macOS for EduRoam?

Answer

Note: The eduroam network is for students and employees who are traveling to other universities that are member of eduroam (https://www.eduroam.org) and need wireless while they are there. If you need wireless while on the MU campus, students and employees should use TigerWifi (macOS & Windows 10).

PROCEDURE

  1. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click the Wi-Fi icon and select eduroam.
  2. A window appears on the screen. On the first line, where it asks for a user name, type your username in one of the following formats.
    - Full username (e.g. username@umsystem.edu)
    - Full domain username (e.g. username@umad.umsystem.edu)
  3. Type your password in the password field.
  4. After entering the above information, click Join.
  5. After a moment, a window will appear on the screen asking to verify a certificate. Simply click Continue in the lower-right corner.
  6. Last, enter the password for your computer to update your settings. You're done!

If you cannot connect

If you have attempted to set up eduroam and were unsuccessful (i.e. incorrect information, missed steps, incorrect passwords, etc.), perform the following steps to start from scratch.

  1. In the menu bar at the top of the screen, click the Wi-Fi menu and select Open Network Preferences.
  2. In the window that opens, click the button to Turn Wi-Fi Off followed by clicking the Advanced button in the lower-right.
  3. A panel displaying network information will appear. From the list of Preferred Networks, find eduroam and select it. Click the minus (-) at the bottom of the list to remove it. If you don't see eduRoam then skip this step.
  4. Click OK in the lower-right corner when finished.
  5. Click Apply in the lower-right corner.
  6. Click Turn Wi-Fi On in the upper-right corner. You can now close this window.
  7. Follow the above instructions (at the top of this article) to reconfigure and start from scratch.
