Overview

Employees who wish to continue using Grammarly may purchase or request an approved version of Grammarly for Education through the Division of IT Software Sales page. Please work with their fiscal officer to purchase Grammarly using their departmental MoCode.

Note: The Grammarly Editor Webpage will no longer be available. Please visit this webpage for more information and details on how to sign up for Grammarly for Education.

  •  All current Grammarly users who are not part of the UM System license (or are part of a separate Grammarly group, premium, or free license) will be prompted to join the system license or switch to a personal email (sample screen shot attached below).
  •  If a user has not been added to the relevant campus group, they will be met with an authentication error when trying to join.

Troubleshooting

After a user has been added to the access group by Software Sales, the end-user will receive an invitation email to join the UM System license.

End-users can access their UM System Grammarly account here.

If they are an existing user:

They will be prompted to join the system license upon login. If necessary, we can also direct a user to the SSO link directly (https://sso.grammarly.com/saml/login?ssoId=66a8c6ea-0e0e-4075-bf06-92b529764cc4) if they're having trouble with this step.

If an existing user of Grammarly has not transitioned to our UM System Grammarly for Education license, they will see this message when logging in:

If they select Join your school it will prompt them to log in using the university’s SSO.  If they have not purchased a license through Software Sales, they will encounter the following message which will be resolved once they're granted the correct permissions by being added to the group. This would be a good time to ensure that the account referenced in the error is the correct one.

If the end user has accepted the invite but receives the following error message:

Try the steps below:

1. Right-click Accept your invitation from the Grammarly invite you received, then click Copy Hyperlink from the context menu

2. Open a private/incognito browser window and paste the hyperlink into the address bar, then hit enter.

a. You can do this by searching for the browser from the start menu, then launching a private/incognito window.

3. In the SSO login window that appears, try logging in with SSO@umsystem.edu and your university password.

Note: SSO is your Pawprint.

If you encounter the same error, close the incognito window, then try this instead:

1. Open another private/incognito browser window and navigate to https://grammarly.com/signin.

2. In the Email field, input SSO@umsystem.edu then click Continue.

3. Once redirected to the SSO login, log in with SSO@umsystem.edu  and your university password.

If you encounter the following error:

Ensure that any accounts have properly migrated to our license. You can try to change their email address to SSO@umsystem.edu. Steps for this are found here.

Note: End-users who choose to keep their personal accounts outside of the UM System License may choose change email address. To keep using their personal account for non-university purposes, end-users can follow the steps found here to change the email address from a work account to a personal email address. Individual accounts outside of the UM System license should NOT be used for university work purposes.

Things to ensure while troubleshooting

  • Make sure the end user has been added to the g2c_sig_lic_grammarly_users group.
  • Try to log in with different variations of emails to look for specific errors.
    • SSO@umsystem.edu
    • SSO@missouri.edu
    • Alias@umsystem.edu
    • Alias@missouri.edu
  • If able, you can try changing their Grammarly account password by selecting Can’t sign in at the Grammarly log in screen.
  • Ensure that the end user has received an invitation email.

If a current user has already purchased a new license outside of the Um System license, they need to visit https://account.grammarly.com/admin/subscription to request a prorated refund on their existing subscription.
