How Does the Rolling 28 Day QPU Minute Refresh Cycle Work?
The Quantum Processing Unit (QPU) minutes are on a rolling 28-day refresh cycle.
- Your 28 day cycle begins when you start using your allocated QPU minutes.
- Each QPU minute you use is added back to your balance exactly 28 days after the time of use.
Examples Explaining This Concept
Example 1:
- If we have two users allocated 30 minutes each on January 1st and both utilize their minutes on the different dates, the dates the minutes renew will be different as well, despite the allocation date being the same.
- If User A uses 10 minutes on January 1st, then they will have 20 minutes available to use any time, and 10 minutes will be added back to their total available minutes on January 28th.
- If they use an additional 10 minutes on January 2nd, then they will have 10 minutes remaining until January 28th; with the first 10 minutes renewing on January 28th and the additional 10 minutes renewing on January 29th.
- If User B waits until January 28th to use all 30 minutes, they will not have any minutes available to use again until February 27th.

Example 2:
- If User C has 150 minutes of allocated time, the 18 minutes that were consumed on December 18th will renew on January 15th.
- The 10 minutes that are consumed on December 19th will renew on January 16th.
- By December 21st and 29th, there will be an additional 45 minutes used, renewing on January 18th and 26th; and so on.
- On January 15th, 13 minutes are removed from the remaining balance, and 18 minutes are added back to the remaining balance.

Example 3:
- Each QPU minute used is added back to the balance exactly 28 days after the time of use.
- QPU minutes used on February 12th, will be refreshed for use again on March 13th.
- Likewise, QPU minutes used February 25th will be refreshed March 25th, and QPU minutes used March 16th will be refreshed April 23rd.
If you are allocated QPU minutes, you are responsible for utilizing the minutes. Please understand that QPU minutes not utilized is time lost to all groups.
