How-To: Get Access to the Mizzou QIC Quantum Computers

Mizzou QIC Quantum Computers Overview

The University of Missouri joined the IBM Quantum Network and established the state's first IBM Quantum Innovation Center to provide researchers and institutions with access to advanced quantum computing through IBM's cloud-based platform. The MU College of Engineering, College of Arts and Science, and Division of IT collaborate with experts across the university to explore the ability of quantum computing to solve problems beyond the capabilities of even the most powerful classical computers.

As part of the Mizzou Quantum Innovation Center, you can gain priority access to IBM's current production quantum computers. This currently includes several 156-qubit machines with error mitigation.

There are three types of access available:

  1. Default Account:
    • Available to students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and staff.
  2. New Research Project or Instructional Group Account:
    • Available to postdoctoral researchers, staff researchers, and faculty.
    • The faculty PI, instructor, postdoctoral researcher, or staff researcher must be the requestor.
  3. Existing Project or Group Member Addition:
    • Available to students, postdoctoral researchers, faculty, and staff.
    • The project PI or instructor must approve additional members.

What is the Request Access Process?
  1. Submit a Quantum Computing Access Request Form.
  2. Join the MU Quantum Innovation Center Teams Channel.
  3. Requestors are notified by email when their access request is approved.  New projects need to be approved by the QIC Executive Committee that meets once a month.

Requirements
  • Join the MU Quantum Innovation Center Teams channel.  This is used as our primary form of communication for updates and status reports.
  • Research projects must be requested by a postdoctoral researcher, staff researcher, or faculty.
  • Additions to existing projects must be approved by the project PI.

For Additional Assistance

Our partnership with IBM provides access to exclusive content including courses, tutorials and event replays to prepare you for using quantum resources.

Faculty, postdoctoral researchers, staff researchers, and students interested in learning how quantum computing may benefit their research are encouraged to visit the Quantum Innovation Center website.

For additional assistance please e-mail itrss@missouri.edu or open a general quantum support ticket via TDX.
