Overview
For this flag, the goal is to get students back into action quickly. The strongest messages identify the missing work, provide a clear next step, and invite the student to connect before they fall further behind.
Use the examples below as a starting point when raising a Missing Assignment flag in MU Connect. The templates are organized into three different tones, but are intended to be flexible. Copy and paste the example as written, combine elements from multiple examples, and add course-specific details that provide helpful context for the student. Even a small amount of personalization can make your message more meaningful.
NOTE: This flag can be raised anytime using the My Students or Zoom In tabs in MU Connect or during Progress Survey availability (Weeks 4,5, 8, and 9, or Weeks 12 and 13 for 8WK2 and Journalism courses).
Formal Tone
- You missed the submission deadline for Lab 3 report. You have until Thursday to submit it for partial credit. Let me know if you have questions about the assignment or if you'd like to discuss options.
- You missed the deadline for the first draft of your paper, which automatically lowers your grade by 10%. Take another look at Canvas for assignment details and make a plan to complete the next draft before the deadline. Email me if you'd like clarification or assistance.
- You've missed submitting the last two assignments, making it difficult to accurately assess your understanding of the course material. Please prioritize completing the remaining 3 assignments on time. Email me if you'd like to discuss strategies for getting back on track.
- Missing assignments can quickly impact your progress in this course. Please review the syllabus and Canvas and complete the three missing assignments for partial credit. Make a plan to complete future assignments on time. I'm happy to meet if you'd like to discuss your progress.
- You're missing two discussion posts and the reflection paper. You still have time to get some partial credit on those assignments. Review the course schedule in Canvas and develop a plan to complete future assignments before the deadline. Email me if you have any questions or would like help navigating the course.
Friendly Tone
- You're missing the latest worksheet over chapters 3 and 4 and I wanted to check in. Submit the assignment as soon as possible to get partial credit and take a look at the upcoming due dates so you don't fall further behind. Let me know if you have any questions or if I can help with anything.
- You've missed turning in the last two chapter reviews. Catching up now can make a big difference, so start with the upcoming chapter review and keep an eye on future deadlines. Reach out if you'd like to talk through a plan.
- I wanted to check in because I noticed you haven't submitted the last 3 assignments. Life gets busy, but getting caught up now will put you in a much better position moving forward. Let me know if there's something getting in the way or if you'd like to discuss your options.
- Missing assignments can add up quickly, but there's still time to make progress. Remember, your lowest three assignment grades are dropped, so you have time to make up those points. Focus on completing your next assignments on time and let me know if you'd like help figuring out where to start.
Direct Tone
- You're missing your Lab 2 report submission. Check Canvas for those details and deadlines and let me know what questions you have.
- I noticed that you haven't been submitting the Mathlab activities. Please review Canvas and submit those assignments as soon as possible. Email me if you would like help.
- Missing assignments are starting to bring your grade down. Prioritize completing the remaining assignments to stay on track. Email me or stop by my office hours on Thursdays (more details are in the syllabus) if you're running into issues.
- I haven't received your research proposal for your final project. Review the course schedule and submit your proposal as soon as possible so that you can stay on track. Let me know if you'd like to talk about next steps or how to get started.
- Your Week 5 discussion post is still missing. Log into Canvas, review the course modules, and submit that original post as soon as possible. Let me know if you want help.
