Macmillan Learning’s LTI Advantage integration connects your Achieve course to Canvas. Once your courses are linked, you can add Achieve content and assignments to Canvas and sync grades.
Integrating with Canvas
1. In your Canvas course, open Modules and create a module if needed.
2. Select + to add an item.
3. Choose External Tool, then select Macmillan LTI Advantage Course Tools.
4. Select Add Item, then open the new Macmillan link.
5. Choose the option to connect your Achieve course.
6. Select a grade-sync option:
- Assignment level: Creates a separate Canvas grade column for each graded Achieve assignment.
- Category level: Creates a Canvas grade column for each Achieve category.
- Course level: Sends one overall Achieve course grade to Canvas.
7. Select Set Up, sign in to your Macmillan account, and follow the prompts to connect and link your course.
Adding Achieve course links to your Canvas course
1. Open Course Tools and select Macmillan Content.
2. Choose the content you want to add, such as Achieve Home, Achieve E-book, or Student Registration.
3. Select Deploy Selected Content, choose a Canvas module, and deploy the link.
Note: Achieve Home and Student Registration both provide access to the course homepage, so you only need one.
Adding Achieve assignments to your Canvas course
- To add an individual assignment, open it in Achieve, select Assign/Edit or Due Date, then use LMS Integration to sync it to Canvas.
- To add multiple assignments, use LMS Sync in Achieve to sync all assignments or select the ones you want to send to Canvas.
- Publish the Canvas module and its items when you're ready for students to access them.
Student registration
Students can open the Achieve link in Canvas and follow the prompts to register or connect their Macmillan account.

Grade sync tips
- Automatic grade sync may take several hours. You can also refresh grades manually through Course Tools.
- Manage assignment points and due dates in Achieve. Avoid using Canvas availability dates to control Achieve access.
- With Assignment-Level sync, Canvas manages grade weighting and dropped scores. With Category-Level or Course-Level sync, Achieve calculates the grades.
- Make grade changes in Achieve rather than directly in Canvas.
Troubleshooting
- Your Achieve course isn't listed: Check that you're using the same email address for both accounts and that the course is active.
- Course Tools won't open: Allow pop-ups in your browser.
- Content is missing after a Canvas course copy: Refresh the links or remove and redeploy them from Achieve.
- Your course isn't connected: Return to the Macmillan Course Tools link and complete the course-linking steps.
