Body
Approved Software Only!
All software, including user installed software in userspace, is subject to UM system policy. UM system Business Policy Manual (BPM) 12004 states that all software must be reviewed and approved by IT. S&T IT provides the ITAM application as a method to request IT software review. Note: Software collections can be entered as one submission for approval.
Software Updates
To request an update to existing software on the Mill, please submit a ticket requesting a Research Software Consultation. Include the software name, the current and new version, and the reason you need an update. If the software is paid/licensed, please also include the contact information for the license holder so that we can confirm that the license is valid for installation in an HPC environment.
For updates containing a significant degree of change, a new ITAM review may need to be performed.
New Software
Individual Users
Users may build software in userspace in their home directories or lab storage shares. User-built software must still undergo an ITAM review to be approved for use on the Mill. We maintain several compilers and MPI libraries for use with building software that can be loaded using Lmod. The Mill supports traditional Make builds as well as newer Cmake builds.
Multiple Users
For software that is of general interest to multiple users or lab groups you may request a cluster wide install performed by Mill staff. Please request a Research Software Consultation. Your request will be evaluated based on the number of potential users and staff availability to perform the installation.
