Adding SSH Keys to Your Mill Account

Body

You can add your SSH key to your Mill account to enable password-less access to your account. Using an SSH key for authentication will also allow you to log in while off campus without using the VPN first.

Uploading your Public Key using OnDemand

You can log into an OnDemand session from anywhere on any operating system. Connect via mill-classes.mst.edu for students or mill-ondemand.mst.edu for researchers from a browser.

In the top-left corner, select the files dropdown and enter your home directory.

The files tab is located in the top left corner

The folder containing ssh keys is hidden by default, so you will need to check the box to show dotfiles (1). After checking the box, enter the folder named ".ssh" (2).

Check the checkbox labeled dotfiles and then enter the .ssh folder

Inside this folder, there will be a file called "authorized_keys". Use the '...' button to show the context menu and edit this file.

Edit the authorized keys file by using the '...' button to open the context menu

Paste your Public Key into this editor on a new line. Then hit the save button.

Paste your key on a new line and then save the changes

Your key should now be added to the Mill.
