ThreatLocker

What is ThreatLocker?

Purpose

ThreatLocker allows IT to delegate admin rights to users on campus-owned Windows and macOS machines for specific applications, programs and scripts.  The elevation is seamless and allows for secure escalation without exposing accounts to unnecessary risk.

What can I request elevation for?

You can request elevation for approved software that requires admin rights to function or to update.

What can I not request elevation for?

Requests for elevation to install or run software that is not approved.  Additionally, software that is available in AppsAnywhere will not be approved for installation using ThreatLocker.

Instructions

To request to elevate the permissions for a program: right click on the program and select run as administrator; or select the program, then select run as administrator from the start menu.

When the User Account Control (UAC) box pops up, select “Request ThreatLocker Elevation” just below the username/password boxes. You will need to enter your email address and justification for needing to run the program with admin rights. Please be as detailed as possible. The more information we have, the quicker we can process the request.

After submitting your request, IT will be notified and a review of the request will be completed. If you have any questions or want an update on the status of your request, please submit a ticket via the IT Help Desk at help.mst.edu.

Once the request is approved or denied, you will receive an email. If it’s approved: right click the program and again select run as administrator. The program will start and you will see a pop up in the lower right corner of your screen letting you know that the program has been elevated.
