MacOS Login Update: Transition from Jamf Connect to XCreds

IT is updating the macOS login experience on campus-managed Apple computers. This change replaces Jamf Connect with XCreds, providing a more flexible and reliable sign-in process while continuing to use your standard campus credentials.

Who is affected?

Anyone who uses a campus-managed Apple computer (MacBook, iMac, Mac mini, etc.)
If your Mac is personally owned and not managed by campus IT, this change does not apply.

Please note that iPads are not part of this process.

Why is this change happening?

XCreds gives us:

  • A more customizable login experience
  • Improved support for modern authentication methods
  • Better long-term compatibility with macOS updates

Most importantly: you’ll still sign in with your normal campus username@mst.edu and password.

What is changing?

Only the login screen experience
Your files, applications, and desktop will remain exactly the same.
Yo
u may notice:

  • A slightly different cloud login screen
  • A new local account login screen after initial setup
  • Minor visual changes during sign-in

Nothing else about how you use your Mac day-to-day will change.

Before: Jamf Connect Login Screen

This is what the previous cloud login screen looked like using Jamf Connect:

After: XCreds Cloud Login Screen

When your Mac is updated, you’ll first see the new XCreds cloud login screen.
This is where you enter your campus credentials.

After: XCreds Local Login Screen

Once your account is set up, you’ll also see a local login screen.
This is normal and expected.

You will continue to use the same campus username@umsystem.edu and password.

When is this happening?

This update must be completed before the end of March 2026.
The update typically takes only a short period to complete.

What do I need to do?

Please schedule a time with the Help Desk or submit a ticket to schedule a time for a technician to come by your office to assist with the update to the enhanced login solution.
