Question

How do I sign in to OneDrive on my Mac computer?

Answer

NOTE: You will first need to install OneDrive to your Mac before following these steps. OneDrive typically comes installed with Microsoft 365, or you can install it from the App Store.

To sign in to OneDrive on your Mac, follow these steps;

1. Open OneDrive (You can use the magnifying glass in the top-right corner to search, or your can find it in Finder > Applications > OneDrive)

2. You will likely be prompted to sign in. Enter your University credentials (formatted as username@umsystem.edu).

3. Enter your password and proceed.

4. You may be asked to authenticate. Please follow the steps on screen to complete the authentication process.

5. On your first time setting up OneDrive, you will likely see a prompt to choose a folder location. The default is typically /Users/YourName/OneDrive. It is generally best practice to leave it as the default. Click Next.

6. You will now be prompted to choose which folders to sync. If you would like all of the listed folders to sync with your OneDrive, leave them all selected. Otherwise, select the appropriate folders you would like synced.

7. Click through the OneDrive introduction screens, if any, then you will see a button to 'Open my OneDrive folder'.

8. You should see a cloud icon in the top-right corner of your screen. This means that OneDrive is running successfully.

Additional Tips

- OneDrive will appear in your Finder siderbar. You can drag files into your OneDrive folder, like any other folder on your computer.

- If you want to select a file to offload to OneDrive, or always keep locally, right-click on the file(s) you would like to make this change to.

- No cloud icon? You may need to reopen OneDrive (start from step 1 until the cloud reappears).

- Sign-in loop? Ensure that your internet is connected and that your credentials are correct/updated.

- Files not syncing? Click the cloud icon, it will usually tell you what has gone wrong.
